FAQ

What is the End-of-Life (EOL) indicator and why is my watch skipping seconds?
The End-of-Life (EOL) indicator is a safety feature in premium quartz movements. Its function is to alert the wearer that the battery is nearing depletion, preventing the watch from stopping unexpectedly during critical activities.

How it works: When the battery voltage drops below a specific safety threshold, the EOL system automatically activates. Instead of the usual 1-second interval, the seconds hand will pause for several seconds (typically 4 seconds) and then rapidly jump forward to the correct time.

This feature is very helpful because of:

Maintained Accuracy: Despite the skipping motion, the internal quartz movement continues to keep precise time. The watch is not broken; it is simply signaling you.

Preventing Damage: A depleted battery left inside a watch can eventually leak corrosive acid, destroying the movement. The EOL indicator gives you advance warning (often 1–2 weeks) to replace the battery before this risk occurs.

Reliability: For professional use, such as diving or aviation, knowing that your instrument has sufficient power is a vital safety requirement.

If you observe your seconds hand jumping, we recommend visiting a certified service center to have the battery replaced within the next two weeks to ensure uninterrupted performance.
Are quartz watches accurate?
Yes, quartz watches are known for "high accuracy." Because the quartz crystal vibrates at such a stable and high frequency, they are typically much more accurate than mechanical watches, often varying by only a few seconds per month.
Why is the second hand on my quartz watch skipping every 4 seconds?
This is a deliberate feature called the End-of-Life (EOL) indicator, found in high-quality Swiss quartz movements. It signals that the battery is nearing the end of its life and needs to be replaced soon. Your watch will continue to keep accurate time, but you should visit a professional watchmaker to have the battery changed within the next few weeks.
What does "Swiss Made" actually mean?
A watch can only be labeled "Swiss Made" if it meets strict legal standards set by the Swiss government. It requires that the movement is Swiss, the movement is cased up in Switzerland, and at least 60% of the production costs of a watch taken as a whole must from Switzerland. At Jowissa, we proudly assemble our watches by hand in Bettlach, Switzerland, ensuring every timepiece meets these high standards of quality and precision.
What is the meaning of the brand name JOWISSA?
The name Jowissa is a combination of the surname and lastname of the company founder Josef Wyss. He founded Jowissa in the village of Bettlach, Switzerland in 1951. Jowissa has been active and in business without interruption since then.
How long will the battery of my watch last?
The expected battery life is 2 to 4 years depending on external factors like heat and cold. Jowissa uses standard silver oxide battery cells in combination with high quality and low energy consuming Swiss quartz movements.
Can I exchange my watch band?
YES
Is my watch water resistant?
A Jowissa watch is tested for 3 to 20 ATM water resistance depending on the collection.
3 ATM: Watches tested for 3 ATM should not be worn when bathing or showering. They are build to withstand light rain, sweat and brief water contact.
5 ATM: Watches tested for 5 ATM are made to withstand rain, sweat and short swims.
10 ATM: Short dives, swim and other water sports are ok
20 ATM: Deep Dives, swims and other water sports are ok.
