Why is the second hand on my quartz watch skipping every four seconds?

This is the End-of-Life (EOL) indicator used in selected quartz movements. The watch continues to keep time, but the battery is nearing depletion. Have the battery replaced promptly by a professional watchmaker or an authorized service centre.
